At least seven people are critically injured after a Singapore Airlines flight traveling from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulence and was forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand, according to Kittipong Kittikachorn, the general manager of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Earlier, the airport official confirmed a 73-year-old British man had died. Kittikachorn also told CNN on Tuesday that he was informed about the emergency landing in Bangkok just ten minutes before it touched down. Previously, the airport official said the majority of injuries sustained on board were cuts and bruises. “It took us one and a half hours to evacuate all passengers,” Kittikachorn stated.

The incident also happened on the ten-year anniversary of a similar stabbing attack in the Taipei metro which killed four people and injured over twenty.

An earlier generation of Supreme Court justices seemed to possess the capacity for shame. In 1969, Justice Abe Fortas resigned his seat for accepting a $20,000 consulting fee (which he returned) from a foundation led by a man who was convicted of securities fraud. Whatever Justice Fortas believed about his own honor and morality, he understood that the Supreme Court is an inherently fragile institution, and that its nine justices cannot afford the slightest whiff of bias or corruption. They are saying, in effect, that they don’t care if any of this bothers you. To go by recent polls showing that this court’s public approval has approached record lows, it bothers many millions of Americans.

Things are so bad that even tech workers, who make some of the highest salaries of any profession, are feeling the crunch. Entry-level tech workers made an average of $75,262 in 2023, and could only afford 2.1% of studio and one-bedroom rental apartments in the city, StreetEasy found. "If these tech employees can't afford housing, then who can?" But even as New York City has created 800,000 new jobs in the last 10 years, it's only built 200,000 new homes. The average tech worker makes 52% more per year than the average worker in New York City, the StreetEasy report noted.

Russia is currently experiencing a labour shortage in no small part due to the war in Ukraine, with some sectors experiencing significant problems recruiting workers, Britain's Ministry of Defense said Tuesday, noting that the situation could lead to a "mobilisation of labour." In other news, Poland has arrested nine people in connection with acts of sabotage committed in the country on the orders of Russian services. Ukraine's ally Warsaw says it has become a target for Russian intelligence services because it is a hub for military hardware supplies for Kyiv. "We currently have nine suspects arrested and charged with engaging in acts of sabotage in Poland directly on behalf of the Russian services," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told private broadcaster TVN24 late Monday, Reuters reported.
